Description: In 1863, the printer Léo Heer-Bétrix (1835-1890) founded the Tagblatt der Stadt Biel as the organ of the Freisinnigen of the Seeland. It appeared six times a week. 1890 Heer's son Louis took over the newspaper and at the end of the 1890s turned it into the the organ of the Social Democrats of Biel, which led to protests from the middle-class readership and financial problems. In June 1904, the Tagblatt merged with the the Seeländer Bote and the Seeländer Nachrichten. to form the Bieler Tagblatt, which first appeared on 7.6.1904. Heer gave his publishing rights to the Gassmann family.
