Description: In 1850 the printer Franz Josef Gassmann (1812-1894) founded the the newspaper Seeländer Bote in view of the cantonal elections in Biel. At first it was liberal-conservative, then from the 1870s onwards it was and was owned by the family firm W. Gassmann AG. The Seeländer Bote was published three days a week from 1850 to 1904, from June 1904 on six days. The subtitle changed several times. In June 1904, the newspaper merged with the Tagblatt für die Stadt Biel nd the Seeländer Nachrichten to form the Bieler Tagblatt, which first appeared on 7.6.1904. The subtitle Seeländer Bote. Today it is Since 1850 the newspaper for Biel and the Seeland. 1904-1919 there was a land edition with the title Seeländer Bote - Bieler Tagblatt. Unfortunately not all volumes have been preserved.
