Description: In 1844, the Nidwaldner-Wochenblatt appeared as the first Nidwaldedn newspaper, but printed in Lucerne. The Nidwalden clergy, enraged by the liberal orientation, obtained a ban after only 13 issues. With the freedom of the press guaranteed by the Federal Constitution, the newspaper could be published again from 1848 - this time printed in the first Nidwalden print shop in Stans. The reporting mainly covered political events in Nidwalden and the Swiss Confederation, often with a focus on official activities. Articles on social life and official announcements were also published. The political orientation remained liberal.
