Description: The Nidwaldner Volksblatt was founded in 1866 by Caspar von Matt (1817-1884). Initially four pages a week, it contained in-depth articles on political topics, obituaries, reports on the international situation and columns on the Swiss Confederation and Nidwalden. In the early years the paper was characterized by its Catholic-conservative background. In 1923 the publishing rights were transferred to the newly founded "Gesellschaft Nidwaldner Volksblatt". From December 1923 the newspaper appeared twice a week, from 1981 three times a week. The reporting became increasingly neutral. To access the 1985-1991 issues, please contact kantonsbibliothek@nw.ch.
