Description: After three sample issues on December 11th, 18th and 25th , 1841 (all no. 1), the Morgenstern was published from January 1st, 1842 (No. 1) to September 26th, 1843 (no. 77) twice a week (Tuesday and Saturday, then from no. 52, July 1st, 1843 on Friday instead of Saturday). The Morgenstern was printed in quarto format by the Sutter brothers in Chur. The publisher was Ludwig Christ, who was dismissed from the editorial board of the Bündner Zeitung due to disagreements with S. Benedict and wanted to create with the Morgenstern a fierce rival newspaper. The subtitle a Volkszeitung für Graubünden indicates that Christ turned towards the ordinary citizen. He wrote for the cause of the farmer and the improvement of the middle class. The Morgenstern contained reports on the Confederation, on Graubünden, on other cantons and information from abroad. The enthusiastic participation of the people in the contents of the Morgenstern was illustrated by Christ through numerous real or fictitious entries from various valleys.
