Description: The Gazette de Berne was officially titled Nouvelles de divers endroits from 1689 to 1787 and Nouvelles politiques from 1788 to 1798, but it was nevertheless known to readers as the Gazette de Berne . It was a bi-weekly newspaper of which 40'000 pages are now digitized. Unfortunately, only about two-thirds of published editions are still available in various libraries. The Gazette de Berne brought  to Bernese political circles information about major events that took  place abroad. It mainly included correspondence from many parts of the world, including information from Paris and London. It only occasionally published political news from Bern or the Confederation. In general, there is a significant gap between when an event occurred and when the public was informed, as it took time to receive correspondents' reports from distant cities. The originals that have been scanned come from different collections, because no library has the complete series: Bibliothèque de Genève, Swiss National Library, Bibliothèque cantonale et universitaire Fribourg, Zentralbibliothek Solothurn, Universitätsbibliothek Bern, Bibliothèque cantonale et universitaire Lausanne.
