Description: The Bündner Nachrichten followed the Volksfreund using a larger page format. The first issue was published on December 17th, 1885. First it was published three times a week, then from December 18th, 1886 six times a week until 1892. According to an announcement in the last issue of Volksfreund (December 16th, 1885), the Bündner Nachrichten was to be a progressive-democratic organ of news from home and abroad, with editorials covering the major questions of the day and items of general interest. The Bündner Nachrichten were in conflict with Der Freie Rätier which had moved to the right. However in 1892, Manatschal bought Der Freie Rätier and merged it with his own paper. In the end, a newspaper with the long-established title Der Freie Rätier was produced, and it became a significant liberal mouthpiece.
