Description: Successor to the conservative Courrier de Sion, the Courrier du Valais appeared from May 10, 1935 to August 4, 1938. Adorned with the same motto, "God and fatherland", which the Gazette du Simplon had adopted in its time, it was published three times a week. It was edited by Fribourg's Leopold Rey, who in 1937 founded the virulent Tribune valaisanne. Fighting radicalism and its "anti-Catholic ideology", the Courrier was also the enemy of socialism, whose dangers for Switzerland and its patriots it regularly reminded people about. It also subscribed to anti-Semitic theses, publishing on August 24, 1936 an article by Mathieu Deigeilh entitled The Jews must pay. This pamphlet was to be followed by several others, in particular in the Page of National Union columns that from August 26, 1936 the Courrier devoted to the Union nationale valaisanne, an organization founded by Valais fascists and frontists.
