Description: First published on July 28, 1840 under the title of Der Nachläufer and inserted in the Bulletin officiel, the newspaper became the Walliser Bote a few weeks later and was published separately. From September 1, 1840 to January 6, 1841, the newspaper sought to establish an identity, became bilingual for a period, took the title Le Messager Valaisan and eventually disappeared for ten years to reappear temporarily in 1851-1852. Between 1858 and 1869, it was known as the Walliser Wochenblatt. It is really only from 1869 that one can date its publication continuously until today under the title Walliser Bote. It became a daily in 1969, and dominated the German speaking area of the canton, resisting all competitors. Initially a party newspaper with a Catholic-conservative orientation, it gradually gave way to an independent regional newspaper which, from 1989 on, with the disappearance of the Walliser Volksfreund, occupies the same strategic position as the Nouvelliste in French-speaking Valais .
